Thanks for visiting my Fundraising Page for the 2021 SCADaddle for SCAD Research! All money raised will go to Medical Research to better understand, diagnose, treat and ultimately prevent SCAD Heart Attacks.

2 weeks after the birth of Nikeeta I suffered from a heart attack (NSTEMI) which was caused by Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) which is an uncommon emergency heart condition that occurs when a tear forms in one of the blood vessels in the heart, which causes a clot to form within the wall of the blood vessel. As the clot expands it blocks or slows blood flow to the heart, causing a heart attack, abnormalities in heart rhythm or sudden death.

It was a life changing moment for not only myself, but those around me.

I was admitted to hospital for 7 days to recover and investigate further the cause of such incident. Unfortunately at the time, there was not enough research or advice in regards to SCAD and the recovery for someone of my age, with minimal risk factors. I felt alone. I felt helpless.

I was referred on to Cardiac Rehab where I undertook an Education & Exercise program to help get my head around what lays ahead of me with the numerous medications I was also on which drastically changed the way I feel each day.

This October I am participating in a Fun-‘walk’ called SCAD-addle. I am raising money to help put towards research into SCAD heart attacks and help those who were just like me in a position of helpless-ness.

I was wondering if you’d like to sponsor me!?

Just some random facts that may help understand the condition a little more 
• SCAD is a heart condition which requires urgent treatment
• SCAD is more common in women than men
• 70% of SCAD cases occur in people under age 50 years, and has occurred in individuals in their teens
• SCAD typically occurs in people with no standard risk factors for heart attack (such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes); the underlying cause of SCAD is unknown in most patients
• Pregnancy is an associated condition: 10-15% of SCAD cases in women occur most commonly in the first week after delivery of a baby
• Extreme physical activity or emotional stress has been associated with SCAD
• Certain genetic mutations and a related condition called fibro muscular dysplasia (FMD) can increase the risk of dissections of arteries in other parts of the body
• SCAD can recur which can create a high level of uncertainty and anxiety for SCAD Heart Attack Survivors: up to 30% of patients will experience another SCAD over a 10-year follow-up period

You can sponsor me and/or leave a message by selecting the donate button above. Many thanks for supporting me & helping to beat SCAD Heart Attacks!
