Geno, Rob, Oli and Marj are lifelong friends who over the decades have enjoyed all of the natural luxuries afforded to them by Mother Nature and living in beautiful clean, green, pristine and wild Tasmania. Included in their adventures they have shared numerous hobbies such as scuba-diving and running. Between 2010 and 2013 they completed several 10km running events, a handful of half marathons and climaxed with the Melbourne Marathon in 2012. Each of them also completed, at least once, the world's most famous and challenging half-marathon - The Point to Pinnacle.
The last time Geno and Marj ran the Point To pinnacle Marj ended up retiring from the event early and Geno signed off at the pinnacle convinced his running days were over. That was 6 years ago. Rob’s last Point to Pinnacle run was in 2010. Since then, the team have let time and control slip away. Busy lives have gotten the better of them. Complacency, laziness and excuses come all too easily, much like the way our modern society and lifestyles have done with regard to caring for our natural environment.
There has never been a more critical time for change than now. Our oceans are dying and without healthy oceans we will never be able to maintain a healthy planet. Marj, Geno, Oli and Rob are also making changes to improve their own health and life balance.
Rob, Marj, Geno and Oli are becoming the change that they want to see in the world and hopefully encouraging and inspiring you to do the same. They are doing it with the support of Wineglass Bay Tours; a highly acclaimed tour operator in Tasmania that showcases Tasmania's most iconic natural attraction and one of the world's best wilderness beaches. Geno’s sons Kelby and Curtis will accompany them to provide morale support and to represent the next generation. Curtis and Kelby's generation will bear the burden of enormous environmental damage if we don’t clean up our act.
With only 3 months before the next Point to Pinnacle event, the team are being realistic with their goals. The whole team are choosing to run up the mountain but only in the 10km event - the Point to Pub. Whilst running to a pub or walking for 4hrs might sound easy to some of you, for Oli, Geno, Rob and Marj this will easily be the greatest physical challenge they have faced in more than 6 years. Beginning at sea-level they will grind out 10kms of winding road, uphill every step of the way.
If they make it to the finish line, they will surely enjoy a nice cold low-carb frothy to celebrate, but the greatest celebration of all will be to reach their fundraising goal of $1500 which will be shared equally between Sea Sheppard Australia and The Australian Marine Conservation Society.
Geno, Marj, Rob, Oli, Curtis and Kelby are racing to make a change that cannot be ignored and is pivotal to improving their lifestyle and health. They are also racing for environmental change, to raise funds for exceptional Australian charities that work relentlessly to clean up our oceans and in doing so, improve the health of our planet. They are racing to be the change that they want to see in the world.
Phil from Wineglass Bay Tours will also be a part of the team and running to raise funds for our charities however, he has been head hunted for his exceptional fitness and running experience so instead of joining the rest of the team on the Point To Pub, Phil will be running the FULL Point To Pinnacle as a pace runner!
If you would like to show your support and encouragement, please donate and send a message.
Best of luck team, enjoy that icy cold beer at the finish!
