About
My younger brother age 37 has always been a healthy bloke however on going to hospital for pain in his kidneys he underwent a lot of tests and scans to diagnose the source of the pain. The Dr's & specialist could not find the cause and were about to diagnose the cause as a fatty liver. Luckily, (or not so luckily) another specialist happened to be inquisitive and had a look at his results and immediately became suspicious that there was a more serious underlying issue causing his symptom’s and ordered a biopsy along with another more targeted PET scan. As suspected these new tests showed that my brother had what is commonly referred to as a Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs). Rob is now being treated but his diagnosis is not great. Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) is the umbrella term for a group of unusual, often slow-growing cancers. These tumours develop from secretory cells found throughout the body and which are particularly concentrated in the gastrointestinal system, lung, pancreas, ovary and testes. I am doing this fundraiser to raise funds to support patients undergoing treatment for NETs and to hopefully one day find a cure or prevention for this cancer. And to raise public awareness about these rare forms of cancers. The Massive Murray Marathon is a 404 km race over 5 days. My target is to finish in the top 3 for my category. I have previously Kayaked the length of the Murray river 2,500 km's in 45 days and believe I am up for the 5-day challenge of the massive Murray Marathon
The Unicorn Foundation is the only charity focused on neuroendocrine tumours (NET). We have the mission to improve awareness of neuroendocrine tumours within the medical profession and the general public; foster patient understanding through support groups and raise much needed funding for Australian research in this area.
