Multiple sclerosis is a progressive neurological disease that affects more than 25,000 Aussies. It is a disease of the central nervous system that interferes with nerve impulses from the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves, manifesting in a wide range of symptoms that vary from person to person and are often invisible. As yet there is no cure, however there are a number of treatments available to help people live well with the disease.
This June I will be riding the Road to Taiwan KOM to raise money to help fund research fight MS. MS is a disease that closely affects my family and so fundraising to help find new treatments is particularly important to me.
About the ride: Described as arguably the world's toughest climb, the Taiwan KOM route starts in the coastal city of Hualien and travels 105km up to the top of the highest paved road in Taiwan. With 4000m of elevation gain, 80km of constant uphills, high temperatures and gradients of up to 27% this is no cake-walk by any means.
At MS Plus, we want to see the MS community thrive and we want to help more people living with neurological conditions to do the same. We provide emotional and practical support services virtually or face-to-face through our wellbeing centres in ACT, NSW, Victoria and Tasmania.
