The West Australian Rabbit Council is the oldest Club in the Rabbit Fancy in Western Australia. Our role is to educate the public in the proper care of rabbits and to co-ordinate Rabbit Shows for our members to exhibit their rabbits. Two or three times a year we bring interstate judges to WA for our major shows. For the last few years we have combined with an eastern states Club to bring a judge from England for our major show. We hold shows both north and south of the river and have displays and shows at a number of Agricultural Shows.
We try to educate the public by having an online website with information and a contact person that people can ring with rabbit queries. We have also written and printed a 50 page booklet on rabbit care and advertise in newspapers to encourage members of the public to find out the best was to care for the their pets. All these services cost money and so we are always having to fundraise to cover these costs.
In 2018 we have been selected to host the Australian National Rabbit Extravaganza. People come from interstate to show their rabbits and share their passion for their bunnies. We are undertaking extra fundraising this year to help fund the extra costs involved in running such a large event – the first time that this event has been held in WA!
