About
Whether ordering a coffee, reading a bedtime story or performing in a business meeting or 'on the stage'.... our voice is integral to who we are and how we are perceived. So imagine losing it - permanently!
The term 'dysphonia' simply means difficulty making voice sounds. Like laryngitis - it's frustrating, exhausting and can be really tough... but UNLIKE laryngitis, it is often a chronic long term and life changing condition.
Not being heard (or taken seriously) means feeling invisible in the crowd. It often leads to social isolation, low self esteem, unemployment and ultimately depression, just because we struggle to be part of the conversation.
While the causes of dysphonia are many, the trickiest ones are neurological. Those who are affected ‘look and seem’ otherwise well, which often makes diagnosis slow, and public understanding poor.
SO… throughout April we aim to make some noise about the importance of VOICE - and to raise money to produce a human interest documentary which brings those living with dysphonia back into the conversation.
Please help us to give voice to the voiceless by donating to us in this World Voice Day campaign…. because everyone’s voice matters!
The ADN is a not-for-profit org run 'by, and for' people affected by life changing voice disorders. We provide support to others affected by dysphonia; educate; lobby and raise awareness of voice disorders. We raise funds for research into cause & management because everyone deserves a voice!

Lou, you're a fabulous inspiration, The Australia Dysphonia Network is really impressive. I think I may have mentioned before that Voiceless is also an animal rights group, advocating for and raising awareness of factory farming and vegetarianism. Wishing you the very best of fundraising months. Fliss x
