You all know that I run/hike/train for charity where I can and you all know that my running club is the Rogue Runners Club Australia (RRCA). However, what you may not know is that I suffer from anxiety & depression. I still have this 'thing', even when I'm typing now, that makes me not want to share that, but I think it's important to. I take medication and operate like a 'normal' human being, 99% of the time. However, there are some times when I can't or it's very, very hard.
Anyways, what's really cool is that RRCA has moved into permanent alliance with a charity called Sirens of Silence (SOS). SOS is a charity which has been set up to help ALL Emergency Service Personnel engage with each other in creating a culture change to remove the social stigma that has long been associated within emergency services.
And, what's DOUBLY cool, is that I used to be a police officer. It was when I was a police officer that I first became aware of my disease. In hindsight, I am also disturbingly aware of how poorly I was managed, how other people are managed and how even, 'the Job' acted in a way to make things worse.
It's not right and the culture needs to change.
So, that's why I'm so excited that RRCA has decided to permanently partner with SOS to help it raise money to achieve this goal.
Please help me by donating to this page. As this is an indefinite venture, I have placed a target of $10k out there ... if I ever make it to that, awesome. But please, donate if this resonates with you, emergency service personnel or anxiety/depression sufferer or just because you can.
Muchos gracious.
