About

Every 4 years Young Adelaide Voices First Concert Choir undertakes an international tour, competing in famous concert halls and cathedrals in different countries. A life changing experience!

In June and July 2016, the group is participating in festivals and gala concerts in Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Italy - representing Australia with pride and hopefully bringing home some awards. What a wonderful opportunity for girls from all backgrounds to represent Adelaide in Europe and to showcase their amazing Australian repertoire and musicality - watch the YouTube clip.

In addition to families providing funding, we have raised over $45,000 to ensure all the Choristers can participate. This included a photo shoot with internationally acclaimed surrealist artist, Andrew Baines.

A further $10,000 in grants was expected but unfortunately has not been realised. We have set a challenge of raising $10,000 whilst the choir is on tour from Monday 27 June. We are appealing to you for assistance to raise this amount. Every donation is important and will be greatly appreciated. YAV is a not for profit organisation and any donation received is tax deductible.

YAV HISTORY
Over 20 years ago a dedicated music teacher from Marryatville High School in Adelaide started a choir group called Adelaide Girls’ Choir with the dream of helping girls of all ages and backgrounds have the opportunity to access and personally benefit from making beautiful choir music.

Move forward to today and the dream is still alive and well. Now known as Young Adelaide Voices (YAV), the not for profit organisation cares for girls/boys/ladies of various ages and backgrounds and has a fledgling male choir that we are slowly building. As a community we nurture and support each other through a love of choral music.

Our dedicated and talented Artistic Director, Christie Anderson, supported by Office Manager Tracy, and a small band of volunteers and Board Members operate from their rehearsal rooms on the Wesley Uniting Church site in Fullarton Road, Kent Town.

So we start with girls and boys as young as 5 or 6 who join our Junior Choir and then have the opportunity to progress through our more senior groups including the all female First Concert Choir, currently embarking on their European tour. Aurora, our award winning, a cappella women’s ensemble caters for voices from 20 – 35 years of age and have received accolades such as - "It was particularly delightful to hear the ethereal voices take on Throw Your Arms Around Me - and I almost shed a tear during the evenings magnificent highlight, Hallelujah," The Advertiser Adelaide Now.

We ensure our Choristers have appropriate opportunities to grow in their singing, musicianship and personal development. They become part of the YAV community which supports them to achieve their best through sharing music. The friendships formed in YAV can last a lifetime.

Since its inception in 1988, YAV has become an internationally renowned choir, successfully representing Australia in Canada, Europe, UK, America, China, Hong Kong and Japan. YAV is highly regarded and acclaimed both nationally and internationally, receiving numerous awards and prizes, including in our most recent tour: First Prize in the three Youth Choir sections in the 9th International Golden Gate Youth Choir Festival (2012). The choir has also been presented with the Key to the City of Adelaide in 1996, in recognition of their world class standard, international success, and outstanding contribution to the musical life of the city and State.

Locally, YAV has also supported many premier South Australian events for over 27 years, including performances at Carols by Candlelight in Elder Park and the iconic Credit Union Christmas Pageant. More recently our younger choristers sang for the Prime Minister at the opening of the Bendigo Bank Adelaide Office, our Aurora Choristers sang with the Rolling Stones (they were star struck!) and at a recent concert at Ngeringa Cultural Centre, Mt Barker, our First Concert Choir received a standing ovation and encore request - fabulous preparation for their tour to Europe!

We thank you in advance for any level of donation you, your company or network can make to assist Young Adelaide Voices achieve their dreams. Your kindness and generosity is greatly appreciated.

Best wishes
