About

My name is Katie Kelly and I am a Paratriathlete. My aim is to make the Australian Paratriathlon team for the 2016 Rio Paralympics – where the sport will début on the Paralympic level.

I am currently the Paratriathalon (PT5) World Champion and officially ranked number 9 in the PT5 world rankings after four major gold medal wins in the past year.
• Sep 2015 – World Championships – USA – GOLD!
• Jul 2015 – World Paratriathlon Event – Italy – GOLD!
• May 2015 – World Paratriathlon Event – Japan – GOLD!
• Mar 2015 – National Championships – Australia – GOLD!

Paratriathlon is a multidisciplinary endurance sport that consists of a 750m swim; 20km bike ride and a 5km run. For the race Paratriathletes are tethered to a guide for the swim, we ride on a tandem bike and are tethered again for the run.

The amazing Michellie Jones is my guide and will be with me all the way to Rio. Michellie is the two time International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Champion (1992 and 1993), 2000 Olympic silver medallist and 2006 Hawaiian Ironman winner, and was recently named in the World Triathlon Hall of Fame.

Usher Syndrome
I was born with Usher Syndrome, a rare deaf and blind degenerative condition. Usher Syndrome is a genetic disorder. The symptoms and signs of Usher Syndrome generally include:
• Hearing loss leading to deafness
• Loss of vision leading to blindness
• Balance problems
• Speech difficulties; and
• There is no cure.

Why I need your help
Any contribution you can make will help me on my journey to Rio by:
• Allowing me to take valuable time off work to train
• Help to cover costs of training camps
• Contribute to travel expenses; and
• Support with medical and health costs to help guarantee that I am in the best physical position to gain selection to the Official 2016 Australian Paralympian Team.

Other ways you can help
There are lots of other ways you can support me on my journey Rio. Any help you can provide is truly appreciated. Some ways you can help are:
• Like me on Facebook - facebook.com/KatieKellyRio16
• Follow me on Instagram - instagram.com/katiekelly2013
