About

Go back to May 2014.

Jaide is a 13 year old girl undergoing six hours of spinal surgery. Two 30cm long titanium rods are being clamped to her spine with 18 large metal screws; parts of her ribs are cut and removed. The specialist advises that if the Scoliosis - the curvature of the spine with no known cause - was left untreated it would continue to contort her body - and eventually kill her...

Jaide’s passion - Inline Speed Skating - is not only on hold, it is in jeopardy.

Her family wait in the hospital foyer. It is the longest six hours of their lives. One week in the Intensive Care Unit, three months of rehab and about $10,000 in medical costs later Jaide's new life starts.

She learns to walk again.

She gets on her skates and never looks back.

In June 2015 she races competitively for the first time. Her personal best times improve at every meet.

In November 2015 she contests the Inline Speed State championships, winning six Gold medals. She loves the sprint distances and her endurance continues to develop with her recovery.

In January 2016 the week long Australian Championships are held in Sydney. The 100 best Inline Skaters in Australia are there including fierce competition in her age group. Because of her operation Jaide is in some form of pain during every race.

She wins three Gold medals, three Silvers, two Bronze and incredibly gets selected to represent Australia at the Oceania Championships in New Zealand.

Can you help get Jaide to New Zealand?

The Oceania Championships see Australia’s best take on the highly disciplined and experienced Kiwis on their home circuit at Timaru, near Christchurch. The New Zealand Inline scene is much bigger than Australia’s and we have often struggled against very tough competition.

To help complete this incredible recovery and amazing story we are asking for everyone’s help to make Jaide’s dream a reality. Jaide has never been on a plane before, she has never left this State before; to be able to make her first overseas trip and be representing her country is going to be an incredible experience.

Jaide has an average family; she has two younger siblings cheering her on, mum and dad work full time supporting her dream. The reality is that Inline skating is an expensive sport and receives little funding or sponsorship. Competing in New Zealand is a seven day commitment, requiring funding for international flights, accommodation, travel and training costs there.

With your help Jaide can realise her dream and compete for Australia!
