On Saturday 13/6/15, our beautiful 10 year old son suffered a sudden stroke caused by an AVM (arteriovenous malformation). Many AVM's never cause any problems however kip was not so lucky. He had a bleed covering a quarter of his brain. He will need a lifesaving operation mid September once the brain swelling has gone down to a safe level.
We live 95km (you must be at least 100km away to qualify for Ronald McDonald house) from the women's and children's hospital in Adelaide. We have to take shifts being at Kip's bedside so accommodation is essential to give each of us some time to sleep and for our 12 year old daughter to have a break from the hospital.
In the past week, it has cost us $1000 for 1 star accommodation right next to the hospital. The cost of food alone for the week has been around $700 for 3 of us as we do not have facilities to cook our own meals. Eating at the hospital cafeteria is expensive but the convenience allows us to eat without leaving the area.
Kip is scheduled to have surgery Mid September To remove the AVM (arteriovenous malformation) from his brain. This is a long and risky procedure however it is essential to save his life.
He will be hospitalised for at least 2 weeks and potentially months depending on how the surgery goes.
We are very stressed and the financial worries are only adding to our stress. We are unsure how we will afford accommodation etc during this time. For this reason, we are trying to raise at least $5000 to put towards these expenses.
We have setup a Facebook page called Kip's cure where anyone who would like to can keep up with his story. I will post photos of any updates on this page.
Thank you for taking the time to read kip's story.
We need to stay as close as possible to kip, and not being eligible for any government help, we are raising funds to pay for accommodation next door to the women's and children's hospital

I have travelled a very very similar scary journey with one of my boys.. Every day, every breath.. is slow motion travel. Hugs beautiful mum, healing hugs to Kip.. You will beat this.. you will. As even though exhausted, a mums healing hug.. is magic. And a sons kiss, a son's smile.. glistening eyes.. is a step towards walking out the doors of hospital.. back to home.. where your family giggles will fill the rooms .. Healing hugs xxx Wendy
