Sam Valavanis was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma at just 12 weeks of age and they thought his life was over before it had even begun. They didn’t know what it meant to him for now, let alone the future. How would he and they as a family get through this ordeal and what kind of life would he have?
Well Sam is a teenager now and although he has had no sight since infancy, he has lived a challenging but full life. The Starlight Foundation have granted his lifetime wish - to travel to the Northern Territory on The Ghan - next week!
However the journey for Sam and his family, who all live in Victoria, started before Covid-19 and they booked accommodation in Darwin through a private provider for $2,000. Unfortunately the price post-Covid for the same accommodation went up as high as $5,500 and the accommodation provider decided not to refund their money (as was the provider’s technical legal right).
I got involved to try and recover the lost $2,000 but without success, so instead I decided to focus on helping Sam with his other Northern Territory wish and show some goodwill - to catch his first Barra!
This is a short and sharp fundraiser aimed at equalising Sam’s family’s poor experience with the NT tourism sector and get him and his family on board a professional Barra fishing charter and land his first Barra!
Real Screamin Barra Fishing have agreed to donate half the cost of a full-day’s Barra fishing to realise Sam’s dream. Please help us to raise the other half!
good luck Sam
