SAS Amputee rides for PTSD

Amputee Laurie ‘Truck’ Sams SC (Star of Courage) is on a grueling 10,000km bike ride from Vietnam to Sydney to give a voice to veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other injuries.

‘The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war.’  - Douglas Macarthur

Deeply aware of these words Truck said: “I’m doing this ride to generate awareness and donations for Aussie vets suffering from mental and physical trauma and to create goodwill with nations of SE Asia.”

A youthful 67, Truck began his epic ride on May 12 and is scheduled to reach the steps of Sydney Opera House on November 20 after six torrid months battling the steamy jungles and paddy fields of Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore before striking the sunbaked Nullarbor Plain on his 5,000 km Australian leg.
