Premier Campbell Newman said it was the best course he'd ever run in Brisbane, Kevin Rudd said he'd prefer fewer hills. But it was a raging success under blue Brisbane skies.

About 7000 people donned colourful outfits Sunday to make their way from the Botanic Gardens, along Coronation Drive, through the University of Queensland and back through Highgate Hill for the inaugural Brisbane Times City2South fun run presented by Westpac.

Winner Glen Yarham from Collingwood Park finished in 44 minutes 58 seconds. Others took more than two hours, as people from Brisbane's western and southern suburbs lined the streets to cheer.

They were cheering for family, friends and the many people who had already raised more than $165,000 on behalf of hundreds of charities.

City2South will be back in 2014 on Sunday, June 15 including an exciting new 5km course.
