Jamie-Lee Lewis - Active Deaf Kids Ambassador
Thank you for supporting my cause – Active Deaf Kids.
My name is Jamie-Lee Lewis, and I am an ambassador for Active Deaf Kids, a program that allows me to help deaf and hard of hearing children around Australia, by encouraging them to try and participate in different sports. I’ve been involved with Active Deaf Kids since the beginning of 2014, and it’s a privilege to watch shy deaf and hearing impaired children coming out of their shells and enjoying a sport which they may have not previously tried before.
I was born deaf, and sport has always been a major part of my life - and that’s not just because my Dad is the former Australian professional rugby league footballer and coach, Wally Lewis! I am a professional athlete, playing water polo for the Brisbane Barracudas, so I know how important sport is. I recently had my second cochlear implant and am enjoying bilateral (two-sided) hearing for the first time.

About Active Deaf Kids
ADK, an initiative of Deaf Sports Australia, holds sport workshops and clinics around Australia, helping deaf and hard of hearing kids to feel comfortable in an environment with like-minded friends, role models and people they can identify with and aspire to. Through sport, ADK helps such children learn new skills and build self-confidence, as well as support a balanced, healthy, lifestyle. The program educates kids as well as their teachers, parents, coaches and people all around them about the importance of participating in sport for life.
