In March we will be taking part in the 3 Peaks Challenge as part of the Perth Integrated Health Cycle Group.  We have set ourselves two challenges.  Firstly, we want to achieve the best possible time for the 235km ride. Secondly, as a team we have committed to raise $17,000 for the MS Society of WA, so they can continue to support people like Maddy.

“When I was only 11 years old when they told me I have MS. I’ve just turned 22.

When I was 11, I was like most kids – people asked me “What do you want to be when you grow up?” and I would think of the endless possibilities – a teacher, a doctor, hey, maybe even an astronaut!

Those things aren’t possible for me anymore. I’m now in a wheelchair, and I’m legally blind. People the same age as me have so much more than I have.

Sometimes it’s the big stuff that upsets me – like knowing I’ll never have the career that I wanted; sometimes, it’s the small stuff, like when I can’t even wear a pair of really pretty high heels.

But still, like most people my age, my dream is to move out of my parents’ house.”

The MS Society is currently upgrading its Hamilton Hill high-support facility. The money we raise will be used to buy specialised equipment for one of the rooms.  When the upgrade is finished, Maddy can move in.
