We encourage you to do that little bit extra this year and fundraise to support the Children’s Ward in Ballarat

About Run Ballarat

Welcome to the inaugural Run Ballarat! This event has grown from the idea that we can come together to change the face of Children’s Health in the Ballarat Community.

We are hoping to make this year’s event a special one for the Ballarat Community and deliver an amazing result for the Children’s’ Ward. By registering and joining the Ballarat community this year you will help ensure that we give the redevelopment the start that it needs!

Runners and walkers of all abilities can challenge themselves with either a 11km or 6km course that starts on beautiful Sturt Street (opposite the City Oval), visits some of Ballart’s most iconic landmarks and finishes on City Oval.

Reasons why Run Ballarat is an event everyone should be a part of!

  • 100% of entry fee goes to Ballarat Base Hospital Children’s Ward Redevelopment
  • You are changing the way that we deliver healthy outcomes to children in our community!
  • You’ll receive an awesome Event T-shirt FREE!

About The Children's Ward

The Paediatric and Adolescent Unit (Children’s Ward) at Ballarat Health Services is a 20-bed unit which offers specialist care for children and adolescents up to 18 years of age.

It is in desperate need of redesign and redevelopment after nearly two decades of delivering inpatient services to children and families.

Many of the services that are now required by the Ballarat and surrounding communities have been redeployed to Melbourne health services, meaning that our children and families face the incredibly challenging scenario of travelling to get the care that they require.

Our vision is to change that.

The below services and facilities are some of the areas that are most in need and will be addressed in the redevelopment;

  • Chemotherapy for children with cancer
  • Expanded treatment and resuscitation
  • An enhanced resuscitation area for neonates and  infants
  • Short Stay Unit for 24 hour monitoring after presentation to the Emergency Department.
  • An outdoor play area
  • A range of parent accommodation is required.
  • Development of Same Day surgery ward
  • Accommodation for dedicated child diabetes and dietetics services.
