Our Ride

  • There is a 40km cycle ride starting at Why Worry Winery at 10am on Sunday 1st May and finishing at Kingstown Primary School. The ride follows the Kingstown Road to Kingstown.
  • There is also a 17km shorter ride from “The Plateau”, Kingstown Road, starting at 11am, and will join the main ride.
  • The end of the ride is at Kingstown Primary School, where there will be a school fete car boot sale and small business expo.
  • Kingstown is roughly in the middle of the triangle of Inverell, Armidale and Tamworth, in the beautiful New England High Country. It is just 30 minutes west of Uralla, off the New England Highway.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the event for?

We are fundraising for both the Kingstown Primary and Pre-Primary schools. We hope to get new laptops for the Primary School and a sail cloth to cover the Pre School outdoor play area.

What should I bring?

  • Your Bike!
  • Photo ID if over 18
  • Helmet
  • Drink bottle (best if in holder on bike)
  • Sunscreen

Do I need a particular type of bike?

Just a bike that you can ride. We don’t recommend bikes with training wheels, as they are harder to control around corners and hills.

What if I break down or have a puncture?

Our bike mechanics will be following along in their van. They should be able to get you going again. Worst case, our straggler wagon will make sure that no one gets left behind!

How do I get back to my car?

Leave your bike at the start at 8am, park at the finish, then get the 9am shuttle bus back to your bike before the ride starts. Your car will be waiting for you when you get to the finish line

Where should I get picked up from?

From Kingstown Public School, probably after 1pm

What else should I know

  • Leave your dogs at home
  • No helmet, no ride
  • This is an alcohol free event

Keeping It Legal

  • On the day to meet the requirements of the law, you will need to have a helmet, at least one working brake, a horn or bell as well as carry your photo ID (if over 18).
  • You will not be allowed to ride without a helmet

Getting Your Bike Ready

  • We recommend getting your bike serviced by a qualified bicycle mechanic prior to the ride. Jock Bullen's Armidale Bicycling Centre has offered free safety appraisals for all entrants.
  • Make sure the bike still fits you.
  • Check your tyres

Getting Yourself Ready

  • Be familiar with the road rules
  • Recommended you drive or ride the route beforehand to get familiar with it.
  • Make sure you are familiar with your bike controls, especially if you have not ridden for a while
  • We do recommend having membership with Cycling Australia. Not only are they great advocates for cycling, but your membership includes insurance too.

Finally

  • Register for the ride
  • Tell your friends
  • Get sponsored for your ride - it's for a great cause!
  • We'll see you out there!
