Freedom Wheels Modified Bike Program

Freedom Wheels modifies standard bikes to give independence to children with disabilities by allowing them to ride a bike, often for the first time. A highly skilled and innovative team of therapists, engineers and volunteers at Solve Disability Solutions undertake an intial assessment process to ensure that clients receive a bike that is suited to their age, height, weight, type of disability and physical and cognitive abilities. The Freedom Wheels volunteers then build the bikes in the workshop using our unique range of support components.

The program is largely funded through philanthropic grants and donations. We make over 100 customised bikes each year. While the families pay for the finished bike, we do not charge them for our assesment and building service and we cap the cost of the bike at $900 even though 25% of the bikes cost in excess of this amount to build (up to $2000).

Your donation will contribute to project coordination and bike assessment clinics by an occupational therapist, bike building, workshop and volunteer expenses, running of the Freedom Wheels van or you can choose to cover the cost of a component on one of the high support bikes that cost over $900 to build.
