Facing limb loss is one of the most devastating and traumatic experiences you could imagine.

Many people find themselves experiencing very strong feelings before and after the amputation. One of the most distressing feelings that many people experience is the sense of loss amputation can bring coupled with anxiety and concern. Many people also feel anger and resentment. Some amputees will feel numb and show no response, whilst the most common feeling is depression and a feeling of complete helplessness, utter terror and one feels alone confronting this horrific situation.

The most important first step is to recognise these feelings when they occur, accept that we feel this way and talk to others who have been through this traumatic experience.

The Central Coast Amputee Association Inc. has trained amputee visitors ready and willing to visit amputees in hospital and at home upon request. Confidentiality is guaranteed. Please phone 4328 1004 to arrange a visit.
