Eighteen years of providing Australia-wide suicide prevention & support to isolated areas and isolated people.

The most common cause of death & injury in the age group 15-44 is Suicide & attempted Suicide!

Suicide kills twice as many Australians and injures far more people than do car accidents. Our core objective is to reduce stress & anxiety and to Break the Downward Spiral.

The Australian Suicide Prevention Foundation is a nationwide, non-government, privately funded organisation focussed on providing an outlet for those thinking suicidal thoughts and their friends and relatives affected. Our basic message is “you would never tell a friend to die; tell yourself what you’d tell a friend”.

Our major project right now is the promotion and enhancement of our new internet service for youth suicide prevention. All funds are being used to bring this service to those in need.... www.youthsuicide.com.

For over eighteen years ASPF has run a nationwide internet and dial in recorded telephone message service. Our phone service attracts some 5,000 calls per year and our web sites have more than 700,000 hits per year and growing; disturbing numbers and clearly providing a necessary service. The one-way information has been strategically targeted at the majority of potential suicides, males. One-way because males, unlike females, are unlikely to expose their state of mind or inner feelings to others. Australia has some 2,500 suicides each year with a conservative estimate of 10-20 times that number making an attempt. For every one person in this frame of mind there are on average 10 family members and friends affected as a result.

ASPF is registered as a Charity and Deductible Gift Recipient under the Federal Government taxation system. ASPF is seeking to work with organisations who share our concern with these numbers.
