Fundraising for Costly Legal Actions

Each year, one in four Australians will experience a legal problem substantial enough to pay for a lawyer and other legal action costs*.

By law, all Australians have the right to seek justice. But this right isn't always exercised due to financial limitations.

More than 13 percent of Australians live under the poverty line, while legal aid is available to just eight percent*.

That's why many Australians are finding great success by turning to crowdfunding to help afford the legal fees that they are willing to take for their personal cause.

Legal Bill Against False Allegations

Peter was falsely charged of the crime of assist suicide and murder of his father in May 2015.

Both allegations were ruled not guilty in the Supreme Court of Queensland.

There were hefty legal bills throughout Peter's court case which the Attorney General of Queensland has refused reimbursement.

Peter started a fundraising page, Nixon Family Legal Bill v QLD Government, to help cover his losses with over 90 donations made to the campaign.

Family's legal battle for medical cannabis

Two sisters suffer from severe forms of Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

They have been in and out of hospital for many years undergoing surgeries, colostomy bags, and various forms of medication that only temporarily numb the symptoms.

After in-depth research, their father started growing medical cannabis to relieve the pain and nausea the sisters feel every day.

On Dec 2017, the police knocked on the parent's door with a search warrant and ripped out all the medical cannabis plants from their ground. Their dad was arrested and had to face trial with costly legal fees.

The girls set up an online fundraiser to help cover their Dad's legal battle with hopes to be an example to show the Australian Government that laws need to change to help people that benefit from medical cannabis.

Volunteers fundraise over harmful community development

Passionate volunteers and residents take a stand to save Parramatta's historic Willow Grove.

An injunction is being sought to halt any works taking place on the heritage-listed 140-year-old Victorian Italianate Villa, Willow Grove.

This 5 year community campaign has been run by 100% volunteer-driven residents of western Sydney, relying on community fundraising and donations from members of the Parramatta community.

Since starting their fundraising campaign in March, over 255 people have donated to the cause raising $28,419 and counting.

Justice through Treaty

Ahead of the 2018 Treaty Talks Workshop in Sydney, Aboriginal communities across Australia are seeking financial support towards the Treaty for Aboriginal and Torress Strait Islander rights.

Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander Peoples from across this country are calling for a Treaty with the Australian Government as a means to implement self -determination and to address the stark disparity in economic social conditions of Aboriginal communities and structural racism.

A fundraising page called Justice Through Treaty was created with over 434 donations to the National Congress of Australia's First People.
