Taryn's $6 for 6 days to help Adelaide’s homeless

This morning at Hutt St Centre's Foundation meeting I was saddened to hear CEO Chris Burns reporting on the increase in client numbers coming to the centre for help, many of these people finding themselves homeless for the first time in their lives.

Chris then shared some news that made me incredibly sad - on the first day of lockdown there were reports of people experiencing homelessness being abused by drivers in passing cars screaming
“ Get off the streets” – Covid times are tough, hard lock down times are tougher. It is why I created this campaign, we’re better than this, it’s time to band together…

Let’s bring the people of South Australia together to unify, give back and spread kindness in these challenging times.

I’m calling on all South Australians in lockdown to contribute a dollar a day for 6 days to Hutt St Centre in support of people experiencing homelessness in our state.

During this pandemic, people who are sleeping rough are facing increased discrimination in addition to the serious risks posed by COVID-19.

Yet Hutt St Centre continues to open the doors of their Wellbeing Centre, offering free takeaway meals, shower and laundry facilities, secure lockers, access to a nurse and more. Staff of Hutt St Centre are essential workers and will be there to offer hope when people need it most.

In a time when many of us are feeling isolated, we have the chance to create meaningful change by building a community based on kindness and compassion.

Together, let’s rally behind Hutt St Centre so they can continue providing essential services for people who are experiencing homelessness. Please give urgently.
