Mwandi OVC Projects mandate is to provide hollistic care for the Orphans and Vulnerable Children of Mwandi- Zambia. It has always been relatively simple to provide food, clothing, medicine and interventions that provide for the physical needs of Children. However, for many, whose families have been ripped apart by loss, grief, abuse and destitution the damage to their mental health is far greater and harder to identify and treat than their physical needs.

Since 2008 the project has provided four trained Child Counsellors to help alleviate Child trauma and to help the Children of the project and their families process and cope with their anger, grief and traumatic experiences. These Counsellors are on duty every day and often night and day, they are integral to the ministry of the project. They sit with Children as they learn their HIV status, they are present when they are arrested by the Police for theft, they are there to help, comfort and support a 10 year old Girl defiled by her Uncle. They counsel Children who have lost anybody they ever cared for in their lives and who cannot process their grief and its manifestation as violent anger. These counsellors have the greatest impact in the lives of the Children and are critical to the project and its work.

The project is seeking to raise $5,000 to cover the annual salary costs of these viatally important people and the incredible service they provide to children who often feel no hope, no love and are truly in the most vulnerable of situations.
