The decision to join this trek was a no brainer - I want to get fit, complete one of the Top 10 treks in Australia, and if I can do that and raise some money that will help Rosie Batty complete the amazing work that she does in regards to domestic violence issues in Australia, then sign me up! A bit more about the foundation... The Luke Batty Foundation was established in February 2014 after Luke Batty was killed by his father at cricket practice in Tyabb, Victoria, on Wednesday 12 February 2014. Everyone in Australia was hugely affected by the manner in which Luke was killed. The response was so overwhelming that it inspired Rosie to set up the Luke Batty Foundation with the goal to raise funds to support women and children affected by the trauma of family violence. Please consider supporting Rosie to achieve her goal in Luke’s memory. A message from Rosie Batty: “I am absolutely thrilled to be leading what will be a deeply moving and spiritual walk. This part of the world is very special to me because I am passionate about learning from women and children in Aboriginal communities and how family violence is impacting on their lives too. I feel a deep sense of connection with these women and their land. They share the lived experience of family violence and the pain it causes. They share my pain. And I am deeply moved by theirs. This fundraising opportunity will open your eyes to some of the most beautiful nature Australia has to offer, and will also help to give the women and children a voice in these amazing communities a voice that can be heard through the support of the Luke Batty Foundation.” The Larapinta Trek is one of the Top 10 treks in Australia, starting out of Alice Springs. From 4-9th August 2017, we'll take 6 days to walk from Telegraph Station to Mount Sonder (approx. 60km's all up). Beautiful landscapes for me to photograph, and I'll be holding an exhibition at the Ballarat International Foto Biennale 19th August - 17th September 2017, with proceeds going to the foundation.
