Orange / New York City Marathon In Memory of Samuel Silvester

On 24 February 2013 I will be running the Orange (NSW) marathon in memory of our son Samuel. By running the marathon I will also be fundraising for and raising awareness of the charity Pillars of Strength.

I was in New York on 4 November 2012 all primed and ready to run the New York City marathon. However as a result of Hurricane Sandy the NYC marathon was cancelled for the first time in history. After all the training and fundraising for New York, I have decided that I still need to run a marathon for my sponsors. I am also hoping to return to New York to run in 2013.

Our Story
On 29 September 2010 our whole world was turned upside down when our son Samuel was stillborn at 36 weeks term. Samuel's umbilical cord got tied in a true knot and he cut off his own oxygen supply. The pregnancy had been completely normal up to this point with no complications at all. Losing Samuel was devastating to all our family and friends and we are lucky to have such a fantastic support network to help us cope with the loss.

Our Family
My wife Alison and I met in New York. Alison is Australian (from Orange) and I am originally from the UK. We live in Sydney and are fortunate to have four children - three sons Oliver (8), Thomas (6) and Samuel and our daughter Lucy who will be 1 in March.
