About

On the first spring tide in July (11th-18th) this year we aim to swim non-stop and unaided across
the English Channel, entering at Dover and emerging (hopefully) close to Calais. True to the
traditional approach we will swim in trunks, use duck fat to keep warm and rely on a pilot boat to
guide us through two of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

One of our main motivations for this swim is to raise money for the Womens and Infants Research
Foundation (WIRF), which raise vital funds for equipment, new initiatives and provide support to
facilitate essential research studies into women and infants health at King Edward Memorial
Hospital
(KEMH).

The neonatal research unit at KEMH, which receive support from WIRF, is particularly close to our
hearts. This unit center provided intensive care for Scott and Caitlin\'s (beautiful and now 3 year
old) daughter Holly when she was born premature at only 23 weeks and 5 days gestation. Mike’s
sister
and Travers’ mum are also undertaking PhD projects connected with the neonatal clinic.
