One in four young people are likely to experience mental illness or substance use issues. Demand on Orygen Youth Health services is at an all time high. Sadly, many young people desperately needing treatment will have to be turned away, as we just don’t have the resources to give them the quality treatment they deserve. Failure to recognise and treat mental illness has lasting adverse effects on a young person’s life. Funding is also desperately needed for research, so we can find the answers to help these young people. Please help OYH to continue to make a difference to the lives of the one in four young people who experience mental health and substance use issues.
Orygen Youth Health Peer Support Workers are young people who have been clients at Orygen Youth Health Clinical Program and now use their experience to help other clients. Apart from visiting clients at the inpatient unit in Footscray to share their wisdom and knowledge whilst providing comfort and support along the way, they also offer a Drop-In Service at the clinic site in Parkville for all clients to visit where they can access information and resources, or simply hang out for a chat.
At the moment the Drop-In Room is only open for one day a week. With just a $30 donation, the Drop-In Room can stay open for an extra hour. Our aim is to open the room at least four days a week with your help.
